Dick French

Dick French studied at the Royal College of Art 1967-70 under Carel Weight and Peter Blake. He won the Harmstone Bequest in 1967 and Burston Award in 1970. Among mixed exhibitions were John Moores Liverpool Exhibitions in 1976 and 1987, in both of which he won prizes, as well as City Artists 1985-6. He had Solo Shows at South Hill Park in 1985 and City Artists Galleries in 1986. French was a runner-up at the 2007 Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize. French was attracted to the seedier side of life, painting scenes around Kings Cross and producing a series of vibrant erotic works in the mid-late 1980s. Art Now in London showed his work throughout the 1990s and his latest solo exhibition was in early 2008 at Gallery12, London. Museum of London and public galleries in Wolverhampton and Sheffield hold examples.
